The last day of Winter – woohoo!! I know that the real start of Spring is the solstice, but the only way I remember from year to year is because Spring and September both start with the same letter! It does make for some oddities though, particularly when a color challenge requires the use of autumnal colors (or ice cream and beach scenes!)
I really enjoyed the challenge of the current ColorQ colors; they look great on the inspiration photo but boy oh boy not so much on my first few attempts at a card! I tried several variations before landing on feathers. (Not for public viewing!)
In the end I used the WPlus9 Fanciful Feathers stamps and dies (so pretty) and a really happy with how this looks. I stamped the background layer on SU! Whisper White using So Saffron and set it aside. The middle layer is a scrap of chevron (from Rosies Studio) underneath some torn watercolor paper that I had smooshed Distress Shaded Lilac and Dusty Concord onto and then splattered with some extra Dusty Concord on the end of a paintbrush.
The feathers are a mixture of feathers diecut from paper scraps and some feathers stamped onto watercolor paper with Tangerine Tango and Bermuda Bay, ‘watercolored’ using a wet paintbrush and then diecut when dry. I unwound some Coastal Cabana thick bakers twine that was on my desk to create the wee bow. The sentiment is also from Fanciful Feathers, stamped in Momento Tuxedo Black, and some sequins from Pretty Pink Posh seemed the right finishing touch.
I used Retro Sketches #178 for the layout, but I’m new to this challenge thing and not so good with remembering challenge timeframes yet so kinda missed the cutoff. Ah well, there’s always next time!
Happy stamping!
Karyn
